How are computers made?

If you are one of those people that question things or one of those people that spend hours watching the famous TV show “HOW IT IS MADE” on TV, then this is for you. Let’s start by defining what a computer is. A computer is an electronic device that processes data and information. A computer also stores and retrieves data. This is common knowledge, right?

However, there are more to computers asides its definition. Do you know that a computer has different parts and these parts are made from different resources?

How then are computers made?

Computers are made of a number of individual parts that have to go through the process of manufacturing which requires resources and accuracy. That is: a computer consists of millions of electronic elements which are also known as electronic components. Every one of these components needs to go through a very rigorous process of design and engineering that will ensure quality manufacture.  During this process, thorough inspection and expert oversight ensure that the end products are able to perform the required tasks.

Your computer is made up of a fantastic array of different materials like steel, glass, silica sand, iron ore, gold, bauxite, and a lot of others. Once the raw materials are gathered, they are transported to a factory, where individual computer parts are made.

What are the different parts of computer parts, and what are they made of?

Motherboard

A motherboard is a device inside of a computer that handles all of the main processing for electrical pathways and connections to other parts of the computer. A motherboard consists of a copper circuit board with electrical pathways actually cut into the board itself. The motherboard and its various components are made from an assortment of materials that include tin, ammonium, and even fiberglass.

CPU

The CPUs are made of metal and silicon, with the metal of choice being copper as copper has less space in between its atoms and less resistance to electrons than other types of metal such as aluminum.

Tower

The tower is the metal box that the actual computer rests in. The tower includes the motherboard, the CPU, the hard drive, and all other hardware that makes a computer what it is. The tower itself is simply a rectangular box made of steel, aluminum, and plastic. Likewise, the tower includes ports for the monitor, the keyboard, the mouse, the power cable, and USB devices.

Monitor

The monitor includes a cathode ray tube and fluorescent screen that allows electrons to create various colors when applied in the correct pattern. Monitors are made of glass, metal, and plastic

Keyboard

A keyboard is a panel of keys that operate a computer or typewriter. A keyboard comprises plastic, metal, and rubber. It also includes circuit boards that are able to process input from the keys and then translate it into electricity.

Having these in mind, it is important to note that all parts of a computer as well as electronic devices in general, have to go through intensive inspection during and after production, to ensure that they are in good working condition. That is the importance of component inspection.
