DescriptionSiemens DI-3IS Series Ionization Smoke DetectorThe Model DI-3 Series detectors from Siemens – Fire Safety are plug-in, ionization detector designed for twowire operation. These conventional peripheral devices operate on the ionization principle: detect traces of fire in either visible or invisible combustion.Model DI-3 is designed with adjustable sensitivity, while Models DI-A3 and DI-B3 have a fixed sensitivity designed for individual, high-air-flow applications.Models DI-3, DI-A3 and DI-B3 consist of self compensating, dual- ionization chambers, as well as one (1), highly stable, solid-state amplifier-switching circuit. There is a chamber that detects the presence of combustion products, and the other chamber that serves as a reference to stabilize the detector’s sensitivity for changes in environmental conditions. The Model DI-3 Series detectors are also available for high-altitude applications (3,000 – 8,000 feet above sea level) as Models DI-3H, DI-A3H and DI-B3H.As products of combustion enter the sampling chamber, the chamber current is reduced producing a voltage change. At the time the voltage range exceeds the predetermined threshold, an Alarm command is signaled to the control unit. Conversely, the detector lock, and must be reset from the fire alarm control panel (FACP). The sensitivity of Model DI-3 Series detectors is factorypreset, and the electrical sensitivity can be monitored in the field, via the Fire Safety sensitivity test module, Model TM-I3. The sensitivity-test jack on Models DI-3, DI-A3 and DI-B3 – and the adjustment screw on Model DI-3 are accessible from the front of the detector housing, enabling the user to perform all sensitivity adjustments and tests while each detector is attached to the detector base. The detectors utilize a low-profile, surface-mounting base, Model DB-3S, which may be attached to either a 4" octagonal, single-gang outlet box or 4" square wiring box. Model DB-3S bases utilize screw-clamp terminals for all electrical connections and self-wiping contacts for reliability. The bases also contain a provision for an optional, concealed locking mechanism to prevent unauthorized removal of the detector head.Model DI-3 Series ionization detectors have been designed to meet a wide range of system-design parameters, including open-area protection in areas with air velocities up to 300 feet per minute.
